I just found this at Presonus.  It's a new FireStudio that has a total of 16 inputs in a single rack space!

Features:

•   24-bit/96K firewire (IEEE 1394)
•   16 inputs/6 outputs simultaneous record/playback channels
•   2 SuperChannels (tube microphone/instrument preamplifier with analog limiter)
•   8 XMAX microphone preamplifiers
•   2 PreSonus microphone/instrument preamplifiers
•   6 balanced TRS line outputs
•   MIDI Input/Output
•   16x8 FireControl DSP mixer/router
•   JetPLL Sync for improved imaging and clarity
•   High performance A/D/A converters (114 dynamic range)
•   Windows and Macintosh compatible
•   ProPak Software Suite including Cubase LE 4 audio production software

It looks like you could record a complete band live in the studio with this and that is what they claim is the goal of this unit and the street price is around $800.00.

Check it out at:

16/6 simultaneous?  That's alot of bandwidth for even firewire!  Wonder how they manage that?

But, geez, life is tough, it's just one crushing defeat after another until you just wish Flanders was dead.

Most of the FireWire offerings are only 8 but they all allow 3 to be daisy chained for a total of 24...

PreSonus site had a section where 3 were chained together like that and they recorded every show on last years Jars of Clay tour live each night.  If they can do that I shouldn't have any problems.
